How to Tell Whether a PowerPoint File Is Corrupted or Just Missing Fonts and Linked Media
A PowerPoint file is not necessarily corrupted because it changes after you send it to another person. Missing fonts, linked videos, external chart workbooks, and other dependencies can make a healthy PPTX look incomplete. Treat file repair as the next step only when the presentation itself remains unreadable or structurally broken after those dependencies are ruled out.
Start With What Failed After the Handoff
A real PowerPoint handoff with missing fonts and linked media from Reddit describes a deck that can look correct on the creator's computer but change on another machine because fonts substitute, media disappears, or charts depend on an unavailable workbook. Those symptoms can look like corruption even when the PPTX package itself is intact.
Which Path Fits?
- Text wraps differently or fonts change: check whether the original fonts are installed or embedded.
- Video, audio, or linked pictures disappear: verify whether they were linked to external files rather than embedded.
- Charts stop updating or show missing data: check the source workbook or linked data path.
- The PPTX will not open, shows unreadable content, loses slides, or remains broken on multiple suitable PowerPoint installations: file-level corruption becomes more plausible.
Rule Out Missing Dependencies Before Repair
Microsoft recommends embedding custom fonts when a presentation must keep the same fonts, layout, and styling on another computer. For media, PowerPoint also distinguishes embedded files from linked files; linked media can break when the linked file or path is unavailable. Test a copy of the deck with the original fonts installed and all source media available before diagnosing the PPTX as corrupt.

When PowerPoint File Repair Is Reasonable
If the same presentation still shows file-level damage after fonts, links, and source files are restored—for example it will not open reliably, displays unreadable content, or loses embedded objects across appropriate PowerPoint installations—use a copy for repair. Wondershare Repairit PowerPoint File Repair is designed for damaged PPT, PPTX, and related PowerPoint files and can attempt to rebuild presentation content and structure.

Use Repairit only after you have ruled out missing fonts and external dependencies and have evidence that the PowerPoint file itself is damaged. Preview the repaired deck and compare slides, charts, images, and media before replacing the original.
