Why Does a PowerPoint Look Correct on One Computer but Break on Another?
If a PowerPoint looks correct on one computer but changes on another, start with environment differences rather than corruption. Font substitution, image compression, Office version differences, linked assets, and compatibility behavior can all change how a healthy PPTX renders.
A Cross-Computer Change Does Not Prove the PPTX Is Damaged
A real Mac-to-PC PowerPoint image quality problem from Reddit describes slides that look normal on the creator's Mac but arrive with blurry images on a PC. Because the file opens and the symptom depends on the receiving environment, that pattern points first to rendering, compression, or compatibility rather than file corruption.
Fast Cross-Computer Test
- Only fonts, line breaks, or spacing change: compare installed fonts and embedding settings.
- Only pictures look softer: check picture compression and resolution settings before repairing the file.
- Only linked media or charts fail: check whether the source files travelled with the deck.
- The deck itself becomes unreadable or loses structure everywhere: investigate PPTX corruption.
Check Rendering and Compression First
Microsoft notes that picture compression reduces detail and that PowerPoint can be configured not to compress images in a presentation. If image quality is the only symptom, compare the original image with the picture embedded in the deck and review the presentation's Image Size and Quality settings. Also compare the file in current desktop PowerPoint on both computers, not only in a browser or preview app.
For image-quality checks, see Microsoft's turn off picture compression guidance. If fonts shift, Microsoft's font embedding guidance explains how to preserve typography when sharing.
Repair Only When the File Itself Fails
If the same PPTX remains damaged after compatibility, fonts, links, and image settings are ruled out—for example it reports unreadable content, cannot open reliably, or loses slide objects on multiple supported systems—then a file repair attempt is appropriate. Wondershare Repairit PowerPoint File Repair can be used for confirmed damaged PowerPoint files.

Use Repairit when the failure follows the PPTX itself across suitable PowerPoint environments, not when the symptom is only a Mac/Windows rendering or compression difference. Verify the repaired presentation against a known-good PDF or source copy.
