Data recovery and file repair solve different problems. Use data recovery when the file is missing, deleted, inaccessible on the original storage, or was recovered incompletely. Use file repair when the file already exists, has a plausible amount of data, but will not open, play, or render correctly because its internal structure is damaged.

The file exists with a realistic size but will not open or play: file repair is the more appropriate next step.
