Why Won't an MP4 Show Up in the DaVinci Resolve Media Pool?
If an MP4 does not appear in the DaVinci Resolve Media Pool, first confirm whether the file plays normally and whether Resolve supports the codec/profile on the device you are using. The .mp4 extension alone does not tell you whether the video stream inside is compatible with that Resolve setup.

MP4 Extension Alone Does Not Confirm Compatibility
Two files can both end in .mp4 while using different codecs, profiles, bit depths, or chroma formats. Compare the file's media information with Blackmagic Design's supported codec list for DaVinci Resolve. Platform and edition can also affect decode support.

Use a Supported Editing Copy When the MP4 Plays Normally
If the source opens and plays correctly elsewhere, create a compatible editing copy and check whether it appears in the Media Pool. If that works, the next steps stay in the codec/profile compatibility path; if the original source also fails outside Resolve, move to file-level diagnosis.
